Principal's Report

As we draw to the end of an extraordinary Term 2, I would like to reflect on the amazing outcomes our school and community have achieved.  Covid-19 has thrown huge challenges at all of us in many circumstances however the flexibility and positive attitude our staff and community have demonstrated is to be commended!  I think I share everyone’s thoughts that we are looking forward to a settled Term 3 and minimal surprises coming our way.  I would like to wish all of our community a safe and well deserved break as we finish Term 2.

Recent Water Damage

As most of you would be aware we experienced some minor flooding and water damage last week with the excess rain.  Some of our drainage systems were not up to the task.  We have since liaised with DoE facility services and relevant trades people to ensure our drainage system is revised and developed further so no issues arise again.

School Association

Thank you to those parent/carer and community members who attended our AGM last Tuesday evening including AFPS staff members.  During this meeting we finalised our committee for the coming School Association year.  I would like to thank our outgoing treasurer Aaron Wooldridge for his expertise over the past few years balancing our books and ensuring the association is in a strong financial position moving forward.  Below are our committee members for the 2020-2021 school association year.

Chair – Krystal Grundy

Secretary – Rachel Lodge

Deputy Chairperson – James Ayres

Treasurer – Geoff Lucas

General committee members - Dan Meehan, Teresa Bailey, Deb Westerhof, Nikki Mann, Rhonda Turner and Tim Nicholas.

Values Shop

This Thursday and Friday will see our values voucher shop open for the first time this year, unfortunately COVID-19 forced the closure at the end of Term 1 so students have plenty of vouchers saved and ready to spend.  The values vouchers are a part of our positive behaviour structure and highlight students demonstrating our values throughout school life.  Many students will come home later in the week with goodies they have purchased from the shop, we are even providing experiences this term.

Premiers Reading Challenge

The Premiers Reading Challenge finishes up this Friday 3 July.  Could we please ask that students bring back their reading log’s to class teachers as soon as possible after this date.

Hot House

Our hot house is complete, which is fantastic news for our community!  We can’t wait to start planting fruit and vegetables and have produce ready to share in the winter months.  Students have supported the building process over the past month or two helping out where they can with various tasks.  We hope to share our fresh fruit and vegetables during Term 3.

Term 3 Restrictions

COVID-19 has impacted our daily lives significantly in 2020 however schools remain safe and all students should now be at school learning on site unless they have medical advice for a medical condition.  It is also very important to keep your child at home if they are unwell.  Please refer to the letter that was sent home yesterday with students for further information on Term 3 updates.

Term 2 Reporting

A big thanks to parents and carers who supported phone conversations over the past 2 weeks. We had 96% of families engage in conversations and receive updates on their children’s progress in the first half of 2020.  Summaries of these conversations were recorded by teachers in order to support A-E grades at the end of the year.  I would also like to acknowledge teachers who supported these conversations and were very flexible with their time over the fortnight.

Professional Learning Day – Term 3

A reminder to our families that the 1st Monday back of Term 3 – July 20 is a student free day. Teachers will use this day for professional learning and be on site undertaking relevant courses to build on teaching and learning practices.
