We made it!
Another school year has come to an end. I would like to thank our school community for making me feel so welcome when I arrived at the start of Term 3. I have really appreciated the opportunity to get to know our students and families and I am really excited for the next steps in learning and improvement at our school in 2025 and beyond.
I would like to acknowledge our Year 6 leavers, who today have their last day of primary school before embarking on their high school adventure. It has been an honour for us to share in the formative years of your learning journey, and we wish you all every success for the future. Make sure you come back to visit us!
This year we are farewelling two of our much-loved teachers. Miss Cochrane is moving to Brisbane in the New Year and will be away for 12 months. We will all miss her, especially our red pod students, and look forward to welcoming her back in 2026. Mr Perry is moving back to the North West Coast to be with his family. Mr Perry has been at our school for a number of years and has been an incredible educator and leader in that time. We will certainly miss him. We thank both Miss Cochrane and Mr Perry for their dedication to our school and our community, and wish them all the very best for the future.
In other staffing news we welcome three new teachers for 2025. Madeleine Wills will be teaching one of our prep classes, Kristen Anstice will be teaching a 3/4 class and Abbey De Borde will be on a 5/6 class. Students have had the opportunity to meet their new teachers, and we are looking forward to having them as part of our teaching team. Mr G will be taking a period of leave in Term 1, 2025. We wish him all the best for his long service leave.
Thank you to our teachers, teacher assistants, support staff and leadership team for your commitment and dedication to our students and families. Our staff have worked tirelessly to support our students in their learning and wellbeing and it is very much appreciated. Our admin and EFA teams play such a vital role in the success of our school, and we acknowledge and thank them for everything they do. Finally, thank you to all our amazing students for your resilience and persistence this year. We are all very proud of your commitment to your learning.
I wish all our school community a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year, and a restful and relaxing holiday. I am already excited to see you all next year!

Leavers Dinner (tonight)
We are looking forward to seeing all of our Grade 6 students dressed up for their Leavers Dinner tonight.
Students are able to arrive between 5-5:30pm, strutt their stuff along the red carpet and enjoy photo opportunities with family and friends.
We will then move inside and begin the celebration at approximately 6pm.
The night will conclude at 8:30pm.
*There is no cost to families for the dinner
Leavers Assembly
We would like to invite families along to our Grade 6 Leavers Assembly tomorrow afternoon.
We ask that you please be seated by 1:30pm.
Grade 5 students and Grade 6 siblings will also be in attendance.
Our grade 3 - 6 students were treated to a "Big Day Out" at New Norfolk last week.
It was a fun filled day, full of activities!
Grade 5/6 students spent time at Tynwald Park before a walk along the forshore to the Esplanade, to meet our 3/4s.
Even though the day was a little overcast, most students were brave enough to have a swim in the New Norfolk Pool.
We were treated to a bbq lunch, with thanks to the Salvation Army Emergency Services team for allowing us to use their fantastic bbq trailer!
Thank you to all staff for your hard work in organising such a wonderful day for our students.
During the Big Day In, our students were treated with a visit from the Royal Flying Doctors simulator!
We learnt all about what the Flying Doctors do. We got to experience the 3 different stations, and were able to dress up as the Doctor, the Nurse and the Pilot!
The Pilots even got to use the flight simulator!
Thank you to the Royal Flying Doctors for coming to our school! It was so much fun.
Many of our grade 6 students had the opportunity to experience what a day in the life of High School is all about!
They spent the day participating all all sorts of activities from cooking, to team building activities, computer program design to climbing the rock wall.
It was an exciting and positive day for our future high school students!
On Tuesday 26 November, some of the helpers from the Tasmanian basketball team The Jack Jumpers came to Austins Ferry Primary to teach us some basketball skills.
They taught us the key skills for basketball which were dribbling, shooting and passing. We got into teams of 5 to 6 and played some fun games/actives.
At the end of the lesson, we all got a white jersey and the kids who joined in nicely and were awesome throughout the lesson got a special prize. At the start of lunch time, the classes who participated in the Jack Jumpers activities got a fruit skewer and a little piece of salmon taco, which were delicious.
We all enjoyed the Jack Jumpers activities and would like to thank the Jack Jumpers helpers, for coming over and having fun with us!
