BREAKFAST CLUB

The Breakfast Club operates every morning from 8:00am to 8:45am at no cost to families and with limited supervision. We value the support of this program offered by Foodbank, Second Bite and Banjo's Claremont. 

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The Prep – Year 6 Curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum. Click here for more information from the Australian Curriculum website.  The Australian Curriculum sets out what all young people should be taught and the expected learning outcomes through the achievement standards.

Birth – 5 year olds is based on the Early Years Framework click here to view the DECYP Early Years Framework website.  EYLF describes the principles, practices and outcomes that support and enhance young children's learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school.

EXCURSIONS

Parents must sign a validation form at the commencement of each school year authorising teachers to take students on local excursions as part of the classroom learning program. Some excursions require specific authorisation from parents and students will be unable to participate if the appropriate forms are not returned to the school.

Launching into Learning (LIL) operates at Austins Ferry Primary School.  The sessions are open to children from birth to 4 years of age.  Children must attend with their parent or significant adult.

Pre-Kinder sessions begin in Term 2 for students enrolled in Kindergaten for the following year.

LEVIES

Levies are set each year by the School Association.  Current levy charges are:

  • Kindergarten - $180.00 per year
  • Prep to Year 6 - $245.00 per year

Families who qualify for the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) are not required to pay a levy.

LIBRARY

Students are encouraged to use our libraries and are responsible for caring for books they borrow.  Books are available for loan for 2 weeks. Please ensure books are returned regularly.

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE AND HOLIDAY CARE PROGRAMS

Outside School Hours are (OSHC) is operated by Playtime Sport and caters for school aged children.  During school terms the service is open from 2:45pm to 6:00pm Monday to Friday.  Holiday care is provided from 7:30am to 6:00pm daily throughout school holidays and also on student free days.  There are no services on Tasmanian public holidays.

PARENT SUPPORT

We encourage community participation in our school.

All volunteers are required to hold a valid WWVP card and have completed the Manditory Reporting online training. For assistance with this process, please speak to our office staff.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The School Association meet once a term.  It provides parents and community members an opportunity to be involved in supporting the school and the issues important to the school. We welcome your involvement.

SCHOOL BUS

Austins Ferry Primary School boasts its' own school bus, enabling flexible learning programs to occur outside of the school.  The bus seats 11 students and is driven by certified staff members.

SPORT

Our school hosts swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals.  From these events, students are selected to represent the school at Inter-school and Champions’ Carnivals conducted by the Southern Primary Schools Sport Association.  Student Leaders run various casual sporting activities at recess and lunchtimes for all students to enjoy. During the week, students also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports tournaments held at lunchtimes.

All students from Prep – Year 6 particpate in PE lessons and a daily physical exercise program.

Our school provides a House Competition in athletics, cross country and swimming.  Our school houses are Sapphire (blue), Ruby (red) and Emerald (green).

SUPPORT SERVICES

The school provides a wide range of in-house and external services to support students and their families: - School Health Nurse, School Psychologist, Social Worker, Speech Pathologist and Support Teachers.

For a referral to any of these services, talk with your child's teacher or a member of Senior Staff.

SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY PROGRAM

The Swimming and Water Safety Program is held each year for all Years 3, 4 and 5 students and selected Year 6 students.  We also offer Prep - Year 2 students a water orientation program.

UNIFORM

Uniform items are stocked at the school and are available from the school office during office hours 8:30am to 3:30pm. 

Bucket or slouch hats are a requirment for both Term 1 and 4.

Year 6 students are offered an opportunity to design and purchase a special Leavers Top to celebrate their final year of primary schooling.
