Principal's Report

Our staff are very excited to welcome all students back on site next Monday 25 May! For some students it has been 8 weeks since they last attended school on site due to COVID-19 and physical distancing measures.

We would like to remind our community that due to physical distancing measures for adults we are being very stringent with drop off and pick up each day. We would like our families to avoid entering school buildings. We strongly encourage Stop, Drop and Go at the beginning of each day and Collect and Go at the end of each day. If children have any anxiety about returning to school or separating from parents please email/DoJo your class teacher to make a plan to support children.

I am excited to share progress we have made on our new greenhouse in the kitchen/garden area over the past couple of weeks. Thanks to generous support from our School Association we have been able to fund the project and go ahead with the build. It is very exciting for our program that we can now plan for growing produce all year round to support our canteen and school events such as the new soup program.

Next week we will begin a slightly altered canteen menu to support our school in line with COVID-19 recommendations. The revised menu will look similar to Term 1 with some slight changes in regards to daily specials and various other items. Parents will still be able to order via Qkr! and paper at school.

During this time of learning from home and for remainder of Term 2 we will continue to make available the support email service for parents to use when they are requiring support from school services – Social worker, Pshycologist, Nurse and Speech Therapist. Parents just need to send an email to this address AFPS.support@education.tas.gov.au outlining their concern/issue/request and one of our specialists will reply with a plan of support.

As a school we would like to thank all parents/carers for their amazing support of online learning over the past 4 weeks we understand that it has been a challenge for many households however students have developed many new skills that they are able to use moving forward. As a Principal I would also like to acknowledge the work of our staff over the past 8 weeks it has been amazing to witness the flexibility, planning and work structures which have been developed to support children both at home and on site at school.
