Children's University

On Monday 30 May 2022, 23 students from the Children’s University Program visited the Glenorchy City Council to meet the Mayor, Bec Thomas, and learn more about who our Mayor is, what her role involves and what the Council does.  Students had the opportunity to ask the Mayor what she does each day, how the Council works and what the Council is responsible for.  Students learned about how the Council is responsible for roads, footpaths, parks, sports fields, rubbish and water from the Director of Infrastructure, Emilio, and how the Council support events and community arts from the Community Development Team – Lisa and Elisa.  Students enjoyed participating in a quiz to see what they learned about what the Glenorchy City Council does.  Finally, students worked on a jigsaw activity to create an artistic representation of kindness and received a ‘goodies’ bag to take home.

This excursion earned Children’s University students 1 & 1/2 hours towards their passport, with the option to complete a learning destination diary entry to earn an additional hour of learning!
