An important aspect of school life is participating in all that is on offer. For some students the joy of gaining new knowledge in a subject area such as maths is their favourite part of school. For others, it might be music or creative arts or physical education. The one thing that impressed staff yesterday was the commitment of students who joined in with the Cross Country event, even though they may have found it challenging.
The determination and courage that students displayed in completing the Cross Country course shows that they have a desire to succeed and will try their best. For some, finishing the course was a great achievement, for others it was making the Interschool Cross Country team. Congratulations to all students who participated in the course and did it with a smile on their face. Thank you to Mr Bailey and Mr Coppleman for organising the event and to our student helpers from Montrose Bay High School and Hobart City High School. Thank you also to family members who were able to come along and support the students.
Next week you will be receiving information regarding our 'Communicating Learning Progress to Families'. This is an opportunity for you to meet with your child(ren)'s teacher to hear about their learning achievement and progress. You will soon receive an information sheet detailing how to select an interview time with the teacher. Bookings will open on Monday 22 May and close on Friday 26 May. Interviews will then be held from Monday 29 May until Friday 2 June. We hope that you will be able to make a time over that week to discuss the learning journey of your child.
Our next School Association Meeting is on Tuesday 23 May. This is a great opportunity to come along and hear about what is happening in the school, contribute your thoughts and ideas, and to support our school community. We would love to see you there. Information with time and where to meet will be communicated on Tuesday morning, the morning of the meeting.
Students from Prep – 6 have been involved in the ‘School Fire Program’ this week. They have been learning about basic home fire safety. Some things they have learnt include – turning pot handles inwards on the stove, to store matches and lighters on high shelves and how they would implement their Fire Evacuation Plan if there were a fire at their place. I am sure they would love to tell you more about what they have learnt.
This term we have been fortunate enough to reintroduce LOTE – Languages other than English for students prep – six. Students will be engaging in Japanese, learning about their language and culture. Melissa Wickens is welcomed to our school and we are looking forward to learning more about Japan.
I am enjoying getting to know families of Austins Ferry Primary and I continue to learn more about this wonderful school every day. Please continue to stop me in the playground / office to say hi.
