As COVID restrictions begin to ease we have been able to engage with our community once again, as a school we have really missed the interactions and events that bring our families together. We are excited about the opportunities moving forward to interact again on our school site! Recent examples of this has been the Book Week events and open classroom sessions.

Hats – Term 4

As we head into spring our hats policy will be implemented in Term 4. I would like to highlight that at the beginning of Term 4 all students will be required to wear a school bucket hat or similar. No students will be permitted to wear non school caps as these do not support our sun smart policy or provide sufficient protection to face and neck. Any students in Term 4 who bring non-school caps to school will be asked to remove them and told to sit in the courtyard under the shade during breaks. We ask families to support this policy and ensure all students are sun safe.

Uniform

We continue to support students to wear correct school uniform, the only reason students are permitted to wear non school items is when they have a jacket on over the top of a school jumper when outside. We are enforcing our uniform policy to ensure correct supervision is provided and students can be identified as AFPS students. We also encourage uniform to support our values of respect and aspiration.

Book Week – wrap up

What an amazing experience for our students over the past 2 weeks that teachers have organised and provided. A huge thanks to Mrs Sayers and Ms Johnson who supported the organisation of events across the 2 weeks, including mystery readers and local politicians who visited our school and promoted the love of reading. Thank you to staff and parents who also supported our book week parade and community events.

The 2022 School Satisfaction Surveys are coming!

Every year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.

Mr Nicholas

In 5/6 Jackson during Writing, we have had a learning focus of Poetry. We are learning about Haiku poems. Haiku poems come from Japan. To write a Haiku successfully we have been practising breaking words into syllables. The structure of a Haiku consists of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables and the third line 5 syllables. Below are some pictures of the Haiku poems we have created.

In Mathematics we have been exploring multiplicative thinking. We have completed a range of problem-solving activities working alongside other 5/6 classes. We have used different materials to create arrays. We then partition the number as many different ways as we can. Below are some examples of our learning.

3 Clifford has experienced Learn to Swim at the Aquatic Centre for the first time! The students have been very organised with their belongings and have enjoyed the challenges set by their instructors. Utilising all the equipment has been a highlight, such as the boat in the pool and the life jackets in the 5m diving pool. In addition to this, we have had some fun bus drivers that put requested songs on for the students – a great way to wind down after a swim!

In Kinder Clifton we have enjoyed celebrating Book Week and our love of reading! We had a fantastic day dressing up as our favourite characters for the Book Week Parade and loved welcoming families into our library space to share books with us at the start of the day!

Thank you to all students, teachers and families who helped us celebrate Book Week this year.  Book Week is a wonderful opportunity to focus the joys of reading and spark student interest and enthusiasm for reading throughout life.  Developing a love of reading is a major focus for every student, and reading achievement is a key indicator of student success at school.

Thank you to parents and families who supported students with an incredible turn out for our Book Week Parade and open afternoon sessions! The number and variety of costumes were amazing.

Thank you to our School Association for organising and running a successful Book fair, raising money and much needed books for our school library to the value of $1121.00.

Thank you to our mystery readers for sharing their favourite books with students, particularly Mr Andrew Wilkie, Ella Haddad and Josh Willie for their kind book donations.

Thank you to our fabulous teachers for sharing their excitement and passion for books with students and organising creative and engaging activities for families to attend.

On Friday 16 September 2022 we are excited to host 2 student performances at Austins Ferry Primary as a final celebration of Book Week. Each performance is based on a book shortlisted from the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards 2022.

At 9:30am there will be a performance of Stellarphant for the younger students. 

At 11:30am there will be a performance of The Detective’s Guide to Ocean Travel for the older students.
