Term 3 is drawing to a close so I would like to thank our hard working team for their efforts and continued support of students and the AFPS community! I hope that everyone will enjoy a break during the holidays and return refreshed for the exciting events and learning that happen in Term 4.

Canteen changes
At the end of this Term, we will farewell our Canteen Manager Lisa, who we congratulate on her new role with the Tasmanian School Canteen Association. Her appointment has supported us to make changes around how we structure canteen staff in our school and we have decided to engage with a company called Lil Tuckers Lil Tuckers Canteen - Home | Facebook. Lil Tuckers work with several schools in Tasmania and support the food service utilising school infrastructure already in place.
For our school community, Term 4 will look very similar to how the canteen has run previously. You will still order via Qkr! or using the paper bag system, counter sales will be available recess and lunch and we continue to hold Gold Canteen Accreditation. We expect this to be a smooth transition and welcome feedback from our community in Term 4.
Eat After Play Trial
After extensive research and consultation with relevant stakeholders, we have decided to trial a change in how we structure eating and play times across our school. Traditionally we have always supported students to eat recess and lunch before going outside to play and exercise. School data and the latest research is suggesting that there are a range of benefits to play/exercise first, then eat:
- Students don’t rush to eat before going out to play.
- Reduced food waste as students are more relaxed to finish food.
- Less litter across the school.
- Eating time can be used to support student regulation (ready to learn).
- Teachers have opportunity to debrief playground issues with students during eating time.
We will use Term 4 as a trial for this new structure and ask for feedback from parents, students and staff during the Term. We will also collect data on student wellbeing and behaviour to support evidence of future decisions. This feedback will then inform our decision making for 2022.
Hats
A reminder to families that hats will again be compulsory for all students in Term 4. If students are not wearing a hat they will be required to sit in the shade in our courtyard. A further reminder that week 2 in Term 4 is show week, this means a public holiday on the Thursday and student free day Friday.
